Summertime is officially here and the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra is on a well deserved summer break! So we thought we would use these next few months to re-introduce you or, in some cases, introduce you for the first time to this one-of-a-kind show!

This week, in honour of Gustav Mahler's birthday this past Thursday, we're rebroadcasting our October 18th show showcasing this past season's Mahlerfest!

The theme from this week was 'Music & Nature'

Throughout Classical music, we find many strong connections with Nature. Composers and musicians alike have been inspired by, intrigued by and challenged by the world beyond their front door. Host Alexander Mickelthwate explores this beautiful and primal connection by bringing us this show from the banks of the Red River.

We heard from eminent writer and Mahler scholar Norman Lebrecht; we talked about Glenn Gould's documentary 'Idea of North' and we heard from WSO musicians about the challenges and positives of playing outdoors.

All this plus some great music from Mahler, Sibelius, Strauss and Debussy.
