The Agassiz Festival presents a new and novel hyper-intimate performance experience this year: small-scale solo cello recitals intended for a single audience member in a singular venue in Winnipeg's exchange district. Diamond Lane host Sarh Jo Kirsch with cellist Leanne ZachariasCellist Leanne Zacharias’ approach to musical life has been compared to extreme sport— from soloist to collaborating across genres with choreographers, writers, architects, visual artists and musicians of all stripes, she has emerged with a uniquely vibrant and contemporary voice. She is currently on the faculty at Brandon University.

The Listening Booth is a unique performance experience presented in this year's Agassiz Chamber Music Festival. Zacharias performs multiple small-scale solo recitals for a single audience member at a time at the Lisa Kehler Art and Projects Gallery (171 McDermot Ave). Each recital is approximately 20 minutes in length, featuring various works for solo cello. Four recital slots will be offered each day from Monday to Friday, for which interested participant listeners sign up in advance. For the performer, Listening Booth is a durational performance project; for the audience, it’s a rare opportunity for a close encounter with solo cello repertoire performed live, especially for them.
