All this week we're being treated to performances by participants of this year's Manitoba Band Association Solo Ensemble Festival which is happening this Friday. Tuesday afternoon in the Diamond Lane we met another flute ensemble put together by Winnipeg flute instructor Lori Jede. Missed it? Watch the video here!

There are so many young musicians that take private music lessons in Winnipeg in conjunction with middle or high school band, or University

ensembles. For them, being able to participate in the MBA's Solo and Ensemble Festival may be the only opportunity to have someone hear and critique them.

The SOLO & ENSEMBLE FESTIVAL is the MBA's oldest initiative (established 1977). It's an adjudicated non-competitive festival which offers a performance setting for woodwind, brass and percussion players. Each performance slot is 10 minutes long and includes a verbal adjudication. Participants perform as a soloist or in ensembles of up to six members. Participants select the music Music is selected by the participants who then receive written comments and a certificate of participation. The annual festival is held every January in Winnipeg.

This year's festival is Friday, January 20 @ North Kildonan Mennonite Brethren Church (1315 Gateway Road at Springfield).

Public are welcome to attend. It all gets underway just after 9 AM and runs throughout the day.
