Built in 1932, given heritage status in 2005, and converted to house a medical clinic in 2006, the Women's Tribute Memorial Lodge at Winnipeg's Deer Lodge Centre is once again going strong.

The Movement Disorder Clinic celebrated yesterday its tenth anniversary of opening its doors inside the Women's Tribute Memorial Lodge.

Former MLA Bonnie Korzeniowski was an integral part of restoring the building, which, prior to her efforts, had been empty for decades. She was a speaker at yesterday's event.

A plaque honouring Harriet Walker was unveiled yesterday. Walker and the Women's Tribute Foundation spearheaded the idea of creating the lodge, which acted as a place of solace for First World War veterans and a memorial for those who died. She also laid the building's cornerstone in 1931.

Yesterday marked 100 years to the day that the Women's Foundation Tribute Night fundraiser was held. The plaque features part of a poem Walker wrote and read at that event.

Other speakers yesterday included Gordon Fardoe, executive director of the Deer Lodge Centre Foundation, Honorary Colonel Barry Burns, Dr. Douglas Hobson, chair of the Deer Lodge Centre Foundation Ryan Wall, executive director of operations Kevin Scott, and Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba Janice Filmon.
