Parking just got cheaper for Winnipeggers who feed the meter through their phone.

The City of Winnipeg says as of this month it is absorbing the 25 cent convenience fee associated with the PayByPhone app.

Policy analyst at the Winnipeg Parking Authority Colin Stewart says if more people pay using the app, it will reduce costs for the city.

Stewart says 40,000 people per month currently pay using the app. He says there are 2-million transactions a year at pay stations.

He says the PayByPhone app is also used by Impark.

The city says it does not cover the PayByPhone service fee associated with Impark parking.
