Hey Winnipeg, the weekend is almost here! Have you made any plans yet? Might we suggest a few things with the Classic 107 Arts & Entertainment Calendar?

Well, if you’re a fan of organ music, and I know there are lots of you out there, you must take your lunch hour and head down to All Saints Anglican Church on Broadway and Osborne, for Summer Pipes on Thursday (Aug 28). Presented by the The Royal Canadian College of Organists, Winnipeg Centre, today is the last concert for the series and will feature organist Russell Greene. The performance starts at 12:15 and runs until 12:45---the perfect way to spend your noon hour. The concert is free but donations are very welcome.

There is something wicked going on in Winnipeg. I’m sorry, I couldn’t resist. Wicked - the monster hit Broadway musical is playing in Winnipeg until Saturday night at the Centennial Concert Hall. If you’re not familiar with the story, it’s essentially the prequel to the Wizard of Oz. It fills in all the gaps like what’s with the ruby slippers? How DO all these witches know eachother? Based on the 1995 Gregory Maguire novel, Wicked: The Life & Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, the musical is told from the presective of the witches of the Land of Oz. Its plot begins before and continues after Dorothy’s arrival in Oz from Kansas and includes several references to the 1939 film and th original 1900 novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum.

Shows run nightly until Saturday when there will also be 2:00 PM matinee performance. Go to Ticketmaster for tickets.

These next few days are your last chance to pop into Gurevich Fine Art on Albert St. for their second annual Secrets from the Vault. The gallery has on display an exhibit of work from the Gurevich Fine Art private collection. This is an opportunity to catch a glimpse of the mysteries of some of Winnipeg’s foremost artists and emerging talent. The collection hosts more than 30 artworks—some of which have remained unseen for decades. ‘Secrets from the Vault’ ends Saturday (Aug 30). The gallery is located at 62 Albert St, suite 200. It’s open 9-6 Thursdays and Fridays, and from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Saturdays.

I know you don’t want to hear it but it looks like we are wrapping up many of the summer music series, including the wonderful Jazz in the Leo Mol Sculpture Garden. This Sunday afternoon Jazz vocalist & Pianist Amber Epp is set to entertain you.

The 2014 Global Music Award Winner, has been fortunate to live, visit and work around the world, lending to her ecclectic musical tastes. A trip to New York City sparked the fire for jazz. Inspired by jazz greats like Ella Fitzgerald. Modern singers like Diane Reeves and new discoveries like Gretchen Parlato. Amber leaves a blazing trail wherever she performs.

Amber performs at the Leo Mol Sculpture Garden Sunday (Aug 31) from 2:30 – 3:30 (please note the time change) and it is absolutely free!

Check out Amber singing jazz standard "It Could Happen to You" below.

And finally, a heads up for the week to come.
