Three people are injured after two collisions on the Trans-Canada Highway west of Brandon. Both collisions involved semi-trailers.

RCMP Sergeant Paul Manaigre says the first multi-vehicle collision occurred around 7 this morning, between Brandon and Virden. He says initial investigation determined that three semi-trucks had stopped due to the weather, and another semi that was attempting to slow down and pass them lost control, colliding with a pickup truck and the other semis. According to reports, the driver of the pickup truck was airlifted to hospital in Winnipeg. Manaigre says a passenger of one of the semi-trucks was taken to hospital with "non-critical injuries."  An imprudent driving charge has been laid against the driver of the passing semi.

Manaigre says a second collision occurred around 8 a.m. 10 kilometres west of the first incident. He says traffic was again stopped due to weather; a semi-truck was unable to stop in time and collided with another semi, causing a pile up. Again, the driver was charged with imprudent driving. Manaigre says one male passenger was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Manaigre says slippery conditions contributed to both crashes.

A 70-kilometre stretch from Brandon to Virden was closed to traffic for some time this morning, but lanes have since re-opened.
