Guitarist Kurt Tittlemier and flute player Julie Husband perform live on Facebook this Thursday, July 22nd at 8:00pm

This Thursday, two Winnipeg musicians will present a concert of music for flute and guitar that will have you rejoicing in all things summer. Winnipeg musical legend and flute player Julie Husband will be joined by one of Winnipeg’s finest guitarists Kurt Tittlemier in a concert that they are calling “Summertime.”

This concert is sure to present music that is perfect for the warm summer nights here in Winnipeg. Jazz standards like “Girl From Ipanema” and “Blue Bossa” will be played as well as Latin favorites like “Tico Tico” played along-side music of Satie, Joplin and even the Beatles! As guitarist Kurt Tittlemier says, “We don’t stay in any one genre too long…I think with every different set of music Julie is picking up another instrument, or I am picking up a different guitar…It is a very varied program!”

This concert is being supported by an initiative that has helped musicians through the pandemic. The Music Performance Trust Fund (MPTF) was a trust fund that was started many years ago by a collaboration of The American Federation of Musicians, the Canadian Federation of Musicians and the big record companies. A portion of the money made on every sold CD, record and download was pooled into the MPTF so that free concerts could be given for those who otherwise would not have access to the live music. The MPTF has been used to help support musicians as they present live concerts through the pandemic this means that the concert this Thursday at 8:00pm is completely free!!

This is the second summer in which musicians have been faced with doing live streamed concerts, but as the easing of restrictions goes into effect, local live concerts are starting to trickle back into musician's date books, and both Julie and Kurt are optimistic that things will get better as the summer progresses. As Julie says, “Things are looking up, and so I’m optimistic that we are going to start getting back into lots of live music.” Guitarist Kurt Tittlemier feels the same way. “This summer feels way more optimistic…the big thing that is on my mind is transitioning back to in person events, so that feels good.”

“Summertime” is sure to be a concert that will make you love all things summer. So why not sit outside with your feet up, your favorite beverage in one hand, your laptop or phone in the other, and take in what is sure to be a warm feast for the ears! The concert is this Thursday night (22nd July)  at 8:00 on Facebook.
