Manitoba Opera's Darlene Ronald talked to Classic 107's Claudia Garcia de la Huerta about the company's call to the city's refugees to appear in the season opener, Fidelio, by Beethoven.

Manitoba Opera is looking for 100 people who have come to Winnipeg as refugees, to appear onstage in the production of Beethoven's Fidelio at the Centennial Concert Hall on November 22, 25 and 28, 2014.

Fidelio tells the story of Leonore, a young woman who disguises herself as a man in order to gain access to a prison and rescue her husband who has been wrongly imprisoned. In the final scene of the opera, after she has successfully freed her husband, other members of the community gather to witness his release, as well as the release of other wrongly held catives. Families are reunited and a celebration takes place.

Volunteers will appear onstage during this scene of the opera as part of the community seeing the prisoners released. Please note: No previous stage experience is required ---you won't be required to sing, but instructions will be given in English.

Darlene Ronald is the head of Marketing for Manitoba Opera. She talks to Classic 107's Claudia Garcia de la Huerta about the response the company has been getting. And she shares some of the insirational stories they've received.
