If your child lost their band instrument many decades ago, it might have ended up in this year's police auction.

Two instruments have made their way into the Winnipeg Police Service's Unclaimed Goods Auction. None of the instruments have been tested to see if they still work.

A luthier might get lucky at the auction this month. First to auction is a violin (item 11) without clear branding and its soft case. A bow is included. It is unplayable without new strings.

Item 12 is what police are calling a vintage clarinet. An undated Boosey & Hawkes Regent metal clarinet is for auction. Police say the case it comes with is broken. The clarinet likely previously belonged to someone who was in a marching band, at it comes with a lyre. It is safe to say the instrument needs cleaning before it is used.

Police say all items are sold "as is" during the online auction and are not taking returns, so budding musicals will need to be certain of their purchase.

The auction opens on August 16, set to run until August 23. There is a total of 296 items on the list.
