The Penderecki Quartet25th-anniversary concert season kicks off with an all-Prairie program featuring the Penderecki Quartet. The internationally-known Canadian string quartet has commissioned and premiered over one hundred new works and has also collaborated with many eminent ensembles. This special concert includes premieres of works by Alberta composer Laurie Radford, Saskachewan composer David McIntyre, and Manitoba composer Diana McIntosh, as well as a quartet by Canadian composer Michael Matthews. This will be a dynamic concert performed by an exceptional quartet.

GroundSwell Executive Director John WiensBorn into a musical family in small – town Manitoba, John Wiens aspired to be a musician from an early age. He studied violin and piano, and sang in the All Saints Men and Boys choir in Winnipeg. He holds degrees in Violin, Voice, and Conducting, studying with Robert Ingari, Christopher Jackson, and Andrew Megill.

When John is not working with GroundSwell, he us also a much sought after conductor. His conducting career has ranged from Belgium (University Chorus for L'Université Catholique de Louvain) to Morocco (Ensemble Voca Me) to Montreal (St. Matthias Anglican Church in Westmount, Early music chamber choir Ensemble Bellechose) and more recently John has appeared with Camerata Nova and Polycoro.
