Join us as we excavate archival footage from the farthest corners of the internet in a brand new online series exploring the evolution of Western Classical Music.

Our second episode of Mid-Week Musicology is dedicated to the unveiling of the strange and mysterious music of the late 20th century as we dwell in the glorious echo of the 2016 Winnipeg New Music Festival.

In The Ocean is a documentary from 2001 from Dutch cinematographer/producer Frank Scheffer. It is, in a way, a barometer of the New York 'avant garde' music scene at the beginning of the century. It includes great footage of living composers including some who have recently visited Winnipeg! Bang on a Can co-founder David Lang was one of the 2016 Winnipeg New Music Festival's featured composers and Steve Reich was here for the 2013 edition. The documentary also features Elliott Carter, John Cage, Philip Glass, Brian Eno, and even Frank Zappa!
