The Classical music showcase happens Saturday (Oct 04) afternoon at 2:00 PM at the University of Winnipeg in Eckhardt-Grammatté Hall. Hosted by Classic 107’s Michael Wolch, the concert will feature artists and composers nominated for this year’s Western Canadian Music Awards.

You’ll hear excerpts from nominated compositions from BC’s Corey Hamm, Jocelyn Morlock, Manitoba’s T. Patrick Carrabré, and Alberta’s Allan Gordon Bell. Plus performances by nominated group Land’s End Ensemble.

This year for the first time, jazz will be included in the showcase with Manitoba Jazz recoding of the year nominee Jeff Presslaff. That’s Saturday afternoon at 2:00 PM in Eckhardt Grammatte Hall. Admission is free but donations are welcome.

On Saturday (Oct 04), there is another great event happening out in Neubergthal, Manitoba that aims at celebrating what was and experiencing what is!  Neubergthal is a breathtakingly beautiful village filled with art & culture, a deep rooted Mennonite history and an incredible commitment to the future. Classic 107’s Eric Friesen will be out there hosting a fundraiser for the Eddie Schmidt Housebarn Education Resource Centre. Basically the town is renovating one of the oldest Mennonite barns in Canada and turning into an arts centre that will rival most. Activities begin at 1:00 PM with readings, tours of the house barn, an Artisan Market, Soup & Pie from 3 to 6 and then at 7:00 PM a fantastic concert in the Krahn Barn – a fully renovated barn that’s been turned into a beautiful concert venue. The evening will be made up of performances led by Henry Engbrecht and his male choir, storytelling by Leigh-Anne Kehler, singer songwriter Paul Bergman and alternative pop group Rococode. There will also be performances by Mel Braun, Monique Scholte and Terry Mierau who will be singing songs by Schumann, Strauss, Tchaikovsky, Britten and more!
