Classic 107's Claudia Garcia de la Huerta sat down with the Executive Director of the Manitoba Conservatory of Music & Arts, Norine Harty and Maya de Forest, the photographer and designer of 'Music Equals' - a beautiful book of photographs depicting the kids of the MCMA's inner city outreach programs.

Since the Manitoba Conservatory of Music & Arts opened their doors in 1984, it has been a community of musicians, for musicians, committed to sharing the joy of music for everyone.

One of the many great programs the MCMA runs is the Music Outreach Program. It provides music education to students who would otherwise never have access to it. In 2014 the Inner City Strings Violin Program included students at Strathcona, William Whyte and Wellington Schools. Their Inner City Rock Band Program took place at Wi Wabigooni and Eagles' Circle alternative schools with the entire outreach program reaching more than 300 students each week during the school year.
Music Equals is a wonderful book of photography that celebrates the students in these outreach programs. Young musicians who hold the key to the future.

Music Equals is on sale right now at the Manitoba Conservatory.  It is only $20 and it is for a fantastic cause!  If you would like to purchase a book please call the MCMA at 204.943.6090 or email them at info@mcma.ca. If you would like to go the conservatory in person, they are in their new location at the University of Winnipeg – 515 Portage Ave in Bryce Hall.

We have two copies of the book here at Classic 107. We'll give them away as a 'pay what you can'. Whatever you'd like to donate--whether it's $5, $10, the asking price of $20, or you'd like to give more! Email Claudia at cgarcia@goldenwestradio.com
