The city’s foremost daytime concert and lecture series – Music N Mavens – returns to the Rady JCC.

Presenting a diverse, thought-provoking and entertaining array of speakers and performers, the series has become a unique staple in the winter concert season since being first produced in 1998.

“All the theatre work I had done, and all the concerts and music series I’d done (up until that point) was always in the evening,” says Berbrayer, who at the time had younger children. “I thought ‘wouldn’t it be great to have a daytime series?’”

She quickly found a partner in the then recently opened Rady JCC and the rest, as the saying goes, is history.

Running on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons at 2 p.m., the series once again offers a bit of everything to the Winnipeg audience.

“It’s almost like two series in one,” explains Berbrayer. “There’s a wide variety of music – from folk, klezmer, jazz, every kind of music you can think of – as well as stimulating speakers that are university professors, some of them, or just experts in what they do.”

Music N Mavens presents 20 events, running from January 19 through March 23.
