Starting September 16th, and each Friday until October 28th, take a seven week musical trip around Iceland with award-winning composer/pianist Olafur Arnalds.

Here at Classic 107 we are excited to be playing one track every Friday morning at 7:30, accompanied by an exclusive interview with Arnalds as he introduces each song and discusses some background information about the recording. We will also be posting the video for that particular song on our website.

Arnalds travelled to 7 towns across Iceland this past summer where he collaborated with 7 local artists. At each location he created, recorded and performed a new composition with the artist. Island Songs is as much a digital interactive project as a new album. The entire journey will be chronicled by acclaimed film director Baldvin Z. These travels have culminated in Island Songs a musical trek across his native Iceland.

On Island Songs, Arnalds collaborates with friends, relatives, well known Icelandic musicians and an elder Icelandic poet. It makes for a fascinating journey that sees him and his varying bands perform in livingrooms, concert halls and a lighthouse that he says has a crazy reverb of 15 seconds. According to Arnalds it was a challenging, adventurous and ultimately fun and inspiring way to record his music.

The CD hits the streets October 28th, but you can hear each track beginning Friday September 16th at 7:30 and every Friday on Morning Light leading up to the launch of the CD on the 28th.

Keep an eye on our website for a  new video every week, which accompanies the selected song.

Here is the 1st video from the CD, and my interview with Arnalds about his experience recording the music and videos, and his introduction to track 1 - Arbakkinn:
