A local photographer is capturing the whimsical perfection Wes Anderson is known for in her own photographs.

When April Carandang first picked up her camera, she wanted to use it to explore Winnipeg. Years later she is inspiring others to do the same, this time taking inspiration from a famous movie director and a website called Accidentally Wes Anderson.

"In Wes Anderson films everything is always symmetrical. That is one of the things that I would look at and also in addition to that I would always look at the colours. If it is a really sunny day with blue skies if the building is more on the pastel side of colours and it is not black or grey. It would fit the theme, but primarily it is symmetry and colour first," Carandang says.

She says her photos are helping people discover places they might not have known about in Winnipeg, like Fort Garry Place, which she thinks looks like a movie set.

"They would say that 'oh I didn't know that exists in Winnipeg' or 'I didn't know about that particular spot."

This week Carandang partnered with Tourism Winnipeg, creating a guide called "Accidentally Wes Anderson, Winnipeg edition." She was excited to do it with them, noting it coincides with the release of Anderson's latest film, "The French Dispatch."

"That was really a fun project. When Tourism Winnipeg approached me I was like 'oh yeah, come on. Let's do it."

They highlighted buildings in Winnipeg they thought were worthy of Anderson's camera lens. Carandang is hoping her photos inspire others to explore the city, encouraging people to tag her in their photos so she can repost them and share the images.
