There were no physical injuries after a black truck drove up the Manitoba Legislative Building's front steps.

On Wednesday evening, at around 6:30 p.m. near the Manitoba Legislative Building, a truck was spotted driving erratically. Next, driving through the north entrance, past security guards and crushing safety cones along the way, the truck drove up to and on top of the steps, crashing into a column. The area currently has ongoing construction, but Murray says none of the barriers were damaged.

"I don't think we know at this point," WPS Constable Jay Murray says about why this happened.

The officer says they do not believe this incident is related to the statues that were toppled on Canada Day.

Murray says officers arrived quickly, taking the agitated male driver and the female passenger into custody.

There were no physical injuries to the pair or anyone else involved. The man was taken to the hospital for a medical assessment. Murray says he was not under the influence at the time of the crash.

The male suspect is facing charges.
