The Manitoba government is providing more than $375 thousand to create new childcare spaces in Sage Creek.

Taken from the provincial Early Learning and Child Care Building Fund, the money will be used to open up 60 new childcare spaces at the newly expanded Living Prairie Childcare Inc.

With the additional space, the facility will now be able to offer 20 new preschool and 40 new school-age spaces at its site, in addition to the 74 spaces the centre already provides.

“Our government is committed to increasing access to affordable, high quality and inclusive child care to meet the needs of families with parents who require before- and after-school child care,” said Education and Early Childhood Learning Minister Wayne Ewasko. “We will continue to build on our recent historic announcement of $10-a-day child care for regular hours of funded and licensed child care by supporting initiatives that build capacity in the system to ensure Manitoba families have access to quality child care in their communities.”

The minister noted 20 of the childcare spaces that were developed with this investment are part of the Manitoba government’s commitment to create 23,000 new, regulated not-for-profit childcare spaces for children under age seven across the province by 2026.
