Evalyn is the creator and star of SPIN, playing now at Prairie Theatre Exchange until Jan 31st.

Evalyn Parry is an award-winning theatre creator, songwriter, and spoken-word poet based in Toronto, Canada.

Steeped in the folk tradition, Parry also lives to innovate.  Her genre-blurring work is inspired by intersections of history, auto/biography and contemporary social activism.

Over the last decade she has created and directed numerous original performance works, released four CDs, and performed her unique combination of music and spoken word at festivals, theatres, schools and campuses internationally.

Fierce, funny, poignant and provocative, Parry takes her unique perspective on the world and transforms it into art that spans genres, genders and generations.

She is also the new artistic director of Buddies in Bad Times Theatre.

Evalyn’s acclaimed multi-media show SPIN (starring the Bicycle as muse, musical instrument and agent of social change) premiered in 2011 at Toronto’s Buddies in Bad Times Theatre and has been on a multi-city tour ever since.

It's on this tour that she finds herself in Winnipeg and at Prairie Theatre Exchange where audiences are loving the show!

SPIN is a theatrical and musical journey celebrating the Bicycle as muse, musical instrument and agent of social change. Inspired in part by the incredible true tale of Annie Londonderry – the first woman to ride around the world on a bicycle in 1894 – Parry spins a web of stories which travel from 19th century women’s emancipation to 21st century consumer culture, peeling back layers of history to ultimately reveal a profoundly contemporary and personal heart to her theme of liberation. parry’s co-star is a vintage bicycle played by percussionist Brad Hart, who conjures an astonishing array of sounds on his “iron horse”, creating a richly textured and utterly unique sonic accompaniment to Parry’s songs and monologues.

Part theatre, part musical gig, part spoken-word poetry and part documentary…whatever it is, it is brilliant.” Toronto Star (SPIN)
