Host Michael Wolch is back from a few weks of vacation and he has a fantastic show lined up for his first show of September.

I am so happy to be back hosting The Wide World of Classical Music. I always have fun programming this show, and this weekend was no exception. When I got back from my holidays my desk was filled with amazing new releases. It was hard to choose, but I have decided on 2 recordings that I will be featuring: Alain Lefevre has a new CC of Andre Mathieu's Piano Concerto 3 and Christina Pluhar and L'Arpeggiata have one called Handel Goes Wild.

The Mathieu Piano Concerto is actually the original version of his famous Concerto de Quebec. It took Lefevre, host and lecturer George Nicholson and Jacques Marchand composer and conductor of the Orchestre Symphonique d'Abitibi-Temiscamingue almost 3 years to reconstruct the score, but it was well worth the wait. It is a brilliant and exciting Concerto that I am sure you will love.

The newest adventure for early music afficionados and experts Christina Pluhar and L'Arpegiatta is called Handel Goes Wild. The New York Times perhaps best summed up the sound of this amazing group in 2012: "The group uses modern pop vocal inflections and improvisational techniques from jazz in its performances of antique pieces, and it applies Baroque timbres to modern popular tunes. Its audacious hybrids are driven principally by a fascination with reviving the Baroque art of ornamental extemporization and a curiosity about how contemporary improvisatory styles might be enlisted in that quest". On Handel Goes Wild, the core group has added the beautiful voices of sporano Nuria Rial and countertenor Valer Sabadus, along with the great Italian jazz clarinetist Gianluigi Trovesi. Trovesi does much to add texture, sensuality and spice to the already phenomenal musicianship in L'Arpeggiata. They are one of my favourite groups of any genre and I am very excited to feature almost the entire CD!

There will also be Fetsival music, to celebrate all the festivals happening in town this weekend; an ode to Vienna and much more.
