It isn't every day that an orchestra shows up on your doorstep. But for students at three schools in Winnipeg, that is exactly what happened earlier this week.

"Up Close and Orchestral" had the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra performing in the gymnasiums at Daniel McIntyre Collegiate Institute, John W. Gunn Middle School, and Fort Richmond Collegiate.

Under the direction of recently appointed RBC Assistant Conductor Monica Chen, the hour-long performance featured a variety of works, presenting an engaging and interactive program which included audience "cannons" (as in "BOOM!") as well as the opportunity for one young student to conduct from the podium.

Monica Chen was in the Classic 107 studio alongside WSO Associate Director, Education & Community Engagement Brent Johnson to talk more about the unique experience!
