Super Lube Auto Centres hits record in funds raised in effort to 'put a cap on cancer'

A local chain of auto care centres is celebrating the generosity of their customers who have set a record in fundraising efforts.

Each October since 2016 Super Lube Auto Centres has run their Pink Cap Campaign, taking donations from customers to go towards cancer screening programs in the province. Super Lube recently presented a cheque to CancerCare Manitoba for $15,935 from this year's campaign.

“At Super Auto Centres we have a lot of customers come to us for help maintaining their car," founder and CEO of Super Lube, Jim Brousseau says. "This puts us in a great position to help raise awareness and funds for important causes. We think it’s the responsibility of every Winnipeg business to help the community we serve. We are enormously proud to be a part of Pink Caps for Cancer and partnering with CancerCare Manitoba Foundation."

"This October we hit a record high, raising $15,935 to help Put A Cap On Cancer in our province," the organization says in a release. "Thanks to our amazing Super Lube team and generous customers we have surpassed the previous October’s total every year since 2017. Overall, these gifts of love have amounted to $68,620! The best part is that 100% of the funds raised have gone directly to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation to support screening programs."

"Breast cancer continues to be the number one cancer diagnosed in women in Canada," a spokesperson from CancerCare says. "Cancer screening is for people who have no signs or symptoms of cancer. It can prevent some cancers by finding and treating changes before they develop into cancer and can help find cancers early when treatments may work better. Screening saves lives."

The chain is well known for giving back. For several years now they have been supporters of Siloam Mission, and have partnered with CHVN & Classic 107's annual Change Happens Radiothon, donating tens of thousands of dollars each year. Super Lube Auto Centres also donated over 5,000 free oil changes to health care workers earlier this year.
