One of the newest members of the True North security team needs a name.

Three labrador puppies are joining the force's canine squad, which already features Dante and Daisy, two Belgian malinoises. The puppies are named Grace -- after the Tragically Hip song "Grace, Too" --, and Ryp -- after the late Manitoba Moose player Rick Rypien. The third puppy still needs a handle, and True North is giving fans a chance to pick one.

Winnipeg Jets season seat holders get to suggest names first; from that, a final four will be selected and announced next Monday. Then, all fans will be able to pick their favourite from that group until Wednesday, November 8th. The winning name will be announced Friday, November 10th at the Winnipeg Jets NHL Centennial Fan Arena.

Rob Wozny, True North's VP of comms and community engagement, says the puppies are just over two months old and they're already being trained.

"The most important thing, especially with the puppies at this age... is socialization. So getting used to the noise at the concourses, getting used to all the people in the concourses, getting used to the shiny and hard surface in the concourses, that's what's really most important, is just to get the dogs used to being in these very loud and -- environment's that have a lot going on," says Wozny.

That means you'll be seeing them at Bell MTS Place events, as you may have already seen Daisy and Dante. Wozny says if you want to engage with the dogs, it's typically not a problem, but ask the handler first.

"It's all part of that socialization process. It's good for the dogs, and also, too, our fans and our patrons who come into the building have embraced the dogs. (The dogs) have become ambassadors, if you will," says Wozny.

Wozny says security dogs are present at all Jets home games, to comply with NHL protocol. He says it's becoming a growing demand with other events as well, and people can expect to see the dogs more and more.
