Environment Canada has issued the city of Winnipeg and surrounding areas with a severe thunderstorm warning, but the stakes are higher in southeastern Manitoba where a tornado warning has been issued.
As of 3:55 p.m., Environment Canada (EC) meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm that is capable of producing a tornado. EC believes the thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado is located 12 kilometres east of Sarto, moving southeast at 20 km/h.
Other hazards include large hail the size of baseballs and locally intense rainfall.
Winnipeg and other areas that have been issued a severe thunderstorm warning are also expected to experience large hail, and strong, damaging wind gusts.
The storm is expected to diminish quickly early this evening.
