The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to two house fires just six hours apart.

Quincy Bay Fire

At 9:34 p.m. on Friday, September 15, 2023, the WFPS received reports of a fire in a residence on Quincy Bay. Upon arrival, firefighters were met with a fierce blaze and thick smoke engulfing the house. Due to the intensity of the fire, initial efforts focused on battling it from the outside. Once conditions improved, firefighters bravely entered the premises, successfully bringing the fire under control by 10:12 p.m.

Fortunately, there were no occupants inside the house at the time of the fire, but tragically, three dogs and one cat perished. Paramedics assessed one individual at the scene; thankfully, no hospitalization was required. An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing, and damage estimates remain pending.

Powers Street Fire

A few hours later, at 3:37 a.m. on September 16, 2023, WFPS responded to another distress call, this time on Powers Street. Heavy smoke and flames were observed billowing from the house. Firefighters swiftly launched an interior attack, controlling the blaze by 4:01 a.m.

A thorough search of the premises confirmed that no one was inside the house, and thankfully, no injuries were reported. As with the Quincy Bay incident, authorities are actively investigating the cause of the fire, and damage assessments are pending.
