It wasn't meant to be for Winnipeg and Amazon.

The e-commerce giant announced the final 20 cities being considered for their second headquarters (HQ2) today, with our prairie city missing the cut.

Mayor Brian Bowman and Manitoba premier Brian Pallister had previously cited Winnipeg's central location and low cost of doing business as reasons why the Amazon should consider it a viable option.

They teamed up with local business officials to form a "Team Manitoba" approach to try and woo Amazon to Winnipeg, including teaming up with local football star Obby Kahn on a pitch video in mid-October.

Winnipeg also failed to qualify under a number of Amazon's requirements, including having a population of at least one million people.

Other Canadian cities like Halifax, Vancouver and Ottawa also failed to make the cut.

Toronto was the only Canadian city to make it into the final 20.

Massive cities south of the border such as Los Angeles, Boston, Chicago, New York City, Dallas and Philadelphia are still in the running.
