Similar to what's seen in many other cities across the world, Winnipeg is getting a giant sign with its name on it.

It will be 53 feet wide and illuminated in various colours. The letters are eight feet high.

The sign is being installed at The Forks today; there's actually plenty of work going on there today as the site gets set for the Canada Summer Games.

Preparations at The Forks for the Canada Summer Games

The construction of the sign is budgeted at $120,000. The funding is provided to the Canada Summer Games Host Society as part of an overall $175,000 in pageantry support. The sign's inaugural lighting will take place on Saturday.

The Canada Summer Games run July 28-August 13. They're expected to bring up to 4,000 athletes and 20,000 visitors to Winnipeg.
