Listen to Winnipeg soprano Andriana Chuchman tell Classic 107 about the night of her life Thursday night when she filled in for world famous singer Anna Netrebko.

The Russian soprano had to withdraw from the first two performances of Donizetti’s “L’Elisir d’Amore” at the Metropolitan Opera because she is suffering from the flu. Classic 107's Claudia Garcia de la Huerta spoke to Andriana on the phone from New York City.

In Anna Netrebko's place,  Andriana Chuchman made her Met debut singing the role of Adina when the revival opened Thursday night. She is also scheduled to sing the role again on Monday night (Jan 13).

Andriana was originally suposed to make her Met debut in February as Miranda in the Baroque pastiche “The Enchanted Island.”

Ms. Netrebko, one of the opera world’s biggest stars, inaugurated the current production of “L’Elisir d’Amore,” which is directed by Bartlett Sher, when it opened the Met’s 2012-13 season. This year the production is conducted by Maurizio Benini and stars Ramón Vargas, Nicola Alaimo and Erwin Schrott.
