The cloudy skies during today's partial solar eclipse may have dampened the mood surrounding the event in Winnipeg, but that didn't stop people from enjoying it as best they could.

A large crowd still made their way to the Manitoba Museum today to experience a number of events surrounding the eclipse put on by the Museum and to watch NASA's live-stream from different cities south of the border.

"I am disappointed," said Spencer Trout. "Seeing it in really life, it's like seeing a sports event. You go all the way to the stadium or arena and you want to see it in person. But that's the way the cookie crumbles."

Trout says despite the clouds, it's good to have an event like this to allow people to learn together.

"For thousands of years humans have gotten together and watched these types of things so it's nice to have that community involvement," he said. "It is disappointing because of the weather but it's good to see people out."

Lochlan Wilson and Alexandra Decker also went to the museum today, disappointed they couldn't catch a glimpse of the eclipse.

"We were really excited for this," said Decker. "It kind of sucks but at least we can still see the live stream."

"I'm glad they had this event going on here and they were sold out of eclipse glasses anyway," Wilson said. "So we almost get to see it better than we would have otherwise."

Both Wilson and Decker appreciate the social and educational aspect of the event, regardless of the weather.

"There's a lot of people here which is really awesome to see," said Decker.

"Yeah, it's really good to see kids getting interested in this sort of thing," Wilson said. "It's good for the museum to put something like this on for families to enjoy and get into some science."
