An organization celebrating Manitoba's 150th anniversary may have had to wait an extra year, but they are putting on twice the show. 

The province is putting on a show, two to be exact, on August 28.

Manitoba 150, an organization put together to celebrate Manitoba's 150 years of being in Canada's confederation, says they are hosting two shows at the end of August called Unite 150.

"We are thrilled to be able to bring this amazing and diverse lineup of homegrown talent to Manitobans, especially now that we can safely gather once again!" Manitoba 150 co-chairs Monique LaCoste and Stuart Murray say in a statement.

First set to be an all-day concert on the grounds of the Manitoba Legislature, they have since changed plans. Now, Unite 150 will be recorded live with a live audience for its two shows, one during the day and one in the evening. Up to six thousand people are expected to be at each show.

The shows will take place at Shaw Park, limiting the number of people who can attend and cleaning between shows. Only those who are fully vaccinated can attend.

"Unite 150 presented by Bell MTS will deliver an incredible lineup of homegrown Manitoba musical acts, showcasing Manitoba’s diverse culture!" Manitoba 150 says in a statement.

At noon, the first of two shows will commence with Chantal Kreviazuk and the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra headlining together.

Other guests making a musical appearance include:

  • Fred Penner
  • Tal Bachman
  • Andrina Turenne
  • Rainbow Stage’s MA-BUHAY! 
  • Red Moon Road
  • Jocelyn Gould
  • Indian City

Actor and singer Tom Jackson, and Francophone singer Jocelyne Baribeau will host the afternoon show.

 

Starting at 6:30 p.m., the evening show will see Bachman Cumming headlining.

  • Kelly Bado
  • The Manitoba Youth Chorus

This will be hosted by Ace Burpee and Laura Lussier.

 

In the release, Premier Brian Pallister says he looks forward to "safely welcoming Manitobans and Canadians back home in person or virtually to enjoy an incredible lineup of Manitoba artists as we celebrate our province’s past, present and future."

The online show will be free to watch online, and those attending in person will need to purchase a $4.99 ticket. Ticket funds will be towards the Manitoba Association of Friendship Centres.
