Watch here for a little Christmas music, and some beautiful traditional Chinese music, played by the young, talented Yufei Liu.

 

Yufei Liu, a violinist, from Beijing-China, is currently studying at the University of Manitoba -Faculty of Music for the Master degree. He started to play violin from age four, and he went to the middle school of Beijing Central conservatory of music in Beijing when he was twelve. In 2009, He went to England to study at Birmingham Conservatoire with full scholarship. He has studied with Oleg Pokhanovski, Susanne Stanzeilet, Chris Anstey, and Ming Jin. He has also had many Master Classes with great musicians for the study of solo playing and chamber music, such as Alina Ibragimova, Maciej Rakowski, Krysia Osostowicz, Leland Chen, Yaoji Lin, Simon Smith, Nathaniel Vallois, Pierre Doumenge, etc.

As a soloist, He has given many recitals and concerts in China, England and Canada. He was the Winner of UM‘s Concerto Competition in 2014 and played Beethoven violin concerto with University of Manitoba Symphony Orchestra in 2015. In 2016, Yufei had been invited to perform in the New Year Eve concert in Luo Yang, China.

He is also a very experienced Orchestra Players. He started to play in the China National Youth Orchestra and China national Youth chamber Orchestra from age fifteen to eighteen. And also he was the concertmaster of Birmingham Conservatoire Symphony Orchestra, and Concertmaster of University of Manitoba Symphony Orchestra.

Yufei Liu has also played many chamber music. He was the first violin of the vellen ensemble when he was residing in England, they issued an Album of classical chamber music by Haydn and Mozart recorded in January 2013. They were also the finalists of the chamber music competition of Birmingham chamber music society.

The five winners will perform and receive their scholarship cheques at the annual WMC Scholarship Winners’ Recital that will be held at 7:00 pm on Thursday, December 28th, 2017 at the Winnipeg Art Gallery. The public is invited to attend and be treated to an evening of amazing music from these talented Manitoban performers!
