Classic 107 - Winnipeg's classical and jazz radio station.

They call themselves POLYCORO, and they're setting out to change the Canadian Choral landscape. Tune in Sunday morning at 10:30 AM (CST)

In the summer of 2012, eight elite Winnipeg vocalists collaborated with Montreal-based conductor John Wiens to perform the Bach Motets one-person-per-part---something that had never before been done in Winnipeg.

The experience and the feedback from the audience were so incredible that it developed into a permanent ensemble of musicians dedicated to creating a concert series with a mandate to widen the scope and enrich the quality of live choral music in Manitoba.

They call themselves Polycoro. And they are setting out to change the Canadian choral landscape.

On Wednesday May 20, the choral group performed officially as Polycoro at Winnipeg's Augustine United Church. The programme was called 'Musica Secreta: Works for Unaccompanied Voices' and it featured music by Orlando de Lassus, Frank Martin and award winning Dauphin composer Oleska Lozowchuk.

Tune in Sunday morning (May 31) on White Light (10:30 AM CST) when guest host Simeon Rusnak will bring us Musica Secreta recorded live at Winnipeg's Augustine United Church.

Classic 107 was at the dress rehersal the night before the concert. Watch  Polycoro perform music by Lassus below.

Recognize a certain member of the group? Classic 107's own Sarah Jo Kirsch is one of the the elite members of Polycoro.

Here she tells us more about the group and the programme Polycoro performed in anticipation of the May 20th concert.
