NYO Canada (National Youth Orchestra of Canada) returns to Winnipeg to perform their Canada 150 Signature Project, Edges of Canada. While the concert will feature the performance of works by Strauss and Prokofiev, NYO will also perform The Unsilent Project, a two-part musical piece conceived in collaboration with Signal Theatre, composers Juliet Palmer and Ian Cusson (Métis), and a cast of spoken word artists who explore the themes found in the work of the late slam poet Zaccheus Jackson.

Music Director of the Vancouver Opera since 2002, Jonathan Darlington returns to conduct NYO Canada for the Edges of Canada Tour. Darlington previously conducted NYO in 2011.Born and educated in England, Maestro Darlington’s recent engagements include performances with the Vienna Philharmonic at the Staatsoper, the Staatskapelle Dresden at the Semperoper, l’Orchestre national de France, the Konzerthaus Orchester Berlin, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Paris Opera Orchestra, the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, and l’Orchestre de Paris.

Jonathan Darlington is both a Laureate (LRAM) and Fellow (FRAM) of the Royal Academy of Music, London. As a French resident, he is proud to hold the distinction of Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres.

 

 The NYO with Maestro Darlington perform Thursday night (Aug 03), 7:30 PM at The Centennial Concert Hall.

This concert is free so it is rush seating.
