Winnipeg police have been recalled to a residence in the area of Salter St. and Bannerman Ave. in response to what they're calling an armed and barricaded situation.

Just before 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday Nov. 7, the Winnipeg Police Service said officers were responding to a serious incident in the area. They then said said it was resolved around 11:00 a.m.

However, police went back to the scene just after 12:00 p.m. and there are now reports of shots fired from the residence.

Const. Rob Carver issued an update and says the two incidents are related and the standoff is ongoing.

"I can tell you we've had shots fired by an individual in the residence as well as by our officers," Carver said. "We're not aware of anybody hit. We have as significant police presence and we've blocked off a large area around here so everyone is safe. It's tough to get into the area and that's to maintain the safety of everyone who lives here or has a reason to be here."

St. John's High School, Champlain School and Machray School have all been locked down as a precaution.

More to come.
