The Salvation Army's kettle campaign begins next week.

Major Rob Kerr says the goal this year is $370,000.

"When it comes to assistance with food or other things that might be needed at Christmas, that money will go towards that, but it goes well beyond that because the money raised at Christmas will help with programs throughout the year that are community-based programs around the city," says Kerr.

Kerr says kettle bells will be at about 30 locations around the city. He says they're always looking for volunteers.

"We could certainly use anybody who wants to come out and help us out and be a bell-ringer on one of our kettles. We would certainly love to hear from people. If they do it, I'm sure they'll find it to be a very rewarding experience."

Kerr says they've always been generously supported by the people in Winnipeg, and they're confident people will come through to reach their goal.
