A rally was held at the Manitoba Legislature today to raise awareness about the impact of meth in Manitoba's Island Lake area.

Maureen Wood organized a walk from St Theresa Point to Winnipeg -- that's more than 450 km.

Wood has been personally affected by the drug, saying some of her family members have used it. She wants more resources from government to help the situation.

"I believe those dog (sniffers) at the airport would be a start... and for us maybe to get a treatment centre for the whole Island Lake region, maybe. And a youth centre. I'm really praying for a youth centre. Kids need somewhere to go, they need something to do," says Wood.

The walkers went to the Manitoba Legislature today. They're going to be walking to Ottawa from here.

"It's going to take -- I'm estimating about 40-50 days," she says.

Wood isn't sure how many will walk to Ottawa. She says they have about 35 walkers and she's hoping they all stay, and they will be picking up people along the way.
