Friday afternoon, Simeon Rusnak was joined by the renowned Dover Quartet for an in-studio performance and conversation! Missed it? Watch the video here!

Diamond Lane host Simeon Rusnak surrounded the Dover Quartet who are in Winnipeg to perform on the Virtuosi stage. After their stunning sweep of the 2013 Banff Competition, the Dover quartet was catapulted into international stardom. With their burnished warmth, incisive rhythms, and natural phrasing, the Quartet’s distinctive sound has helped confirm its status as “the young American string quartet of the moment” (New Yorker).

In Winnipeg to perform as part of the Virtuosi Concert Series, the program “Triumph of the Spirit” features the music two Holocaust composers, Simon Laks and Viktor Ullman. anticipating a week of remembering – the 79th anniversary of Kristallnacht (Nov. 9) and Remembrance Day (Nov. 11). The sadness and grief associated with these events is paradoxically defused and transformed by the emotional power of all four of the concert’s string quartets reflecting beauty, joy, hope and love. Also on the program is Felix Mendelssohn’s Four Pieces for String Quartet, Op. 81 and Robert Schumann’s Quartet No. 2 in F major, Op. 41, No. 2.

Triumph of the Spirit takes place Saturday, November 4th at 7:30pm. Note the earlier start time – to accommodate the concert opener, cellist David Liam Roberts. Watch David's Birchwood Jaguar 107 LIVE! segment with Simeon in the Diamond Lane below!
