In time for the Bombers' home opener, a new transit station has opened at Investors Group Field.

Stadium Station will be used, for the time being, for special events and Bomber home games only. It will become a regular rapid transit destination when phase two of the project is complete in 2020.

For now, it ought to ease up some congestion after Bomber games, but Greg Ewankiw with Winnipeg Transit says it's really about safety.

Ewankiw says the facility will hold about 110 buses.

Mayor Brian Bowman, surrounded by members of the Bohémier family (and Terry Duguid), still holds a piece of the ribbon cut today.

In addition to the new station, a road leading up to it has been named Bohémier Trail, in honour of the Bohémier family who left Quebec in 1884 and settled here.
