Prairie Theatre Exchange (PTE) debuts Spin tonight (Jan 14, 2016), a play that follows the true story of Annie Londonderry, who was the first woman to ride around the world on a bicycle in 1895.

Creator and performer evalyn parry merges documentary details about the impact that the bicycle had on the world and the special role it played in the emancipation of women in the 21st century. parry will join host Sarah Jo Kirsch on the Diamond Lane at 4pm on Wednesday, Jan. 20, to talk about Spin

The show features classic instruments like the cello and violin and a very un-traditional percussion instrument in the bicycle.

It’s timely for Manitoba, as well, because Spin comes to Winnipeg just after the Government of Manitoba proclaimed January Women’s History Month, in celebration of the 100th year anniversary of women in Manitoba getting the right to vote in provincial elections.

The show features parry as Londonderry, as well as Brad Hart playing the bicycle, Kathleen Kajioka on the violin, Kevin Fox on cello and Angela Rudden on viola.

The Director of the show is Ruth Madoc-Jones and features visual projects from Beth Kates, the Video and Projection Designer.

Tickets are available online at www.pte.mb.ca or by calling the PTE Box Office at 204-942-5483.

Spin runs at PTE from Jan. 13-31.

Classic 107 news reporter Stephen Burns sat down with Hart to find out how he brought the bicycle to life as a percussion instrument.
