Remembrance Day falls on a Friday this year, which means we can honour and recognize those who fought for our freedoms while enjoying a long weekend.
Here’s a look at what’s open and what’s closed this Remembrance Day in Winnipeg, and a list of Remembrance Day Ceremonies you can attend:
Shopping Centres, Grocery Stores and Liquor Marts
All major malls including CF Polo Park Shopping Centre, St. Vital Shopping Centre, Kildonan Place, Grant Park Shopping Centre and Garden City Shopping Centre are open from 1 p.m. until 9 p.m.
Grocery stores such as Walmart, Superstore, Safeway and Sobeys are open from 1 p.m. until 11 p.m. Liquor Marts are open from 1 p.m. until regular closing hours with the exception of the Cityplace location, which will be closed all day and Brandon West End Express location, which will close one hour early at 9:00 p.m.
The WAG
The Winnipeg Art Gallery will be open from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Remembrance Day.
The Forks
The Forks Market will be open from 7 a.m. until 11 p.m. with tenants and The Common opening at 1 p.m.
The Canadian Museum for Human Rights is open from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and admission is free to all veterans and members of the armed forces until the end of the weekend on Sunday Nov. 13. On the Saturday and Sunday it will be open regular hours.
The Johnston Terminal will be open from 1 p.m. until 9 p.m.
The Travel Manitoba Visitor Information Centre is closed and the Children’s Museum will be open from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. with 50 per cent off admission for veterans.
Assiniboine Park Zoo
The Zoo is open from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Remembrance Day, with the exception of the Park Café, which will be closed. They are offering free admission until the end of day Saturday for all veterans, military personnel and their families.
Recycling/Garbage Collection
The city says there is no garbage, recycling or yard waste collection on Remembrance Day. Customers who are supposed to have a pickup on Friday will now have it on Saturday, Nov. 12. Everyone else remains on the same pickup schedule.
The Brady Road Landfill is closed on Remembrance Day.
Winnipeg Transit
Winnipeg Transit will operate on a Sunday schedule, Friday, Nov. 11. Bus drivers will be observing a moment of silence at 11 a.m. in honour of Remembrance Day. Drivers will pull over and stop their buses at safe locations to recognize the minute of silence.

Libraries
All Winnipeg public libraries will be closed on Remembrance Day. Online services, including eBooks, streaming movies and music are available at wpl.winnipeg.ca.
Leisure Centres/Swimming Pools
All Leisure Centres are closed on Remembrance Day. All pools are closed as well except for the Pan Am Pool and the Cindy Klassen Recreation Complex.
The Pan Am Pool is open from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and the Cindy Klassen Recreation Complex is open from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Animal Services Agency
The Animal Services Agency is closed on Remembrance Day.
Cemeteries
Cemetery grounds at Brookside, St. Vital and Transcona will be open for visitation from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Remembrance Day. However cemetery offices will be closed.
Winnipeg Parking Authority
The Winnipeg Parking Authority is closed on Remembrance Day and reopens on Monday, Nov. 14, 2016 at 8:30 a.m.

HMCS CHIPPAWA Remembrance Day Ceremony
Time: 10:30 - 14:00
Details: HMCS CHIPPAWA will conduct a Remembrance Day Service to pay tribute to the sacrifices made by members of the Canadian Armed Forces, as well as allied forces, in service to their country. The service, open to the public, will commence at 1030 sharp and conclude with a reception to follow until 1400.

Royal Winnipeg Rifles Remembrance Day Ceremony

Details: All are welcome to attend a Remembrance Day Ceremony at the memorial to the 44th Battalion of the Royal Winnipeg Rifles in Vimy Ridge Memorial Park.

McGregor Armouries Remembrance Day Parade

Details: All are welcome to our Remembrance Day Ceremony in honour of our fallen and of our current serving members of the Canadian military. Ceremony will start at 10:30. Doors open at 10:00 a.m. All in attendance must be seated by 10:35 and public are asked to arrive early as seating is limited.

Remembrance Day Ceremony - St. Norbert Cenotaph
Time: 10:45 - 11:15
Details: St. Norbert Cemetery (Avenue Sainte Therese, WWI Cenotaph) Service starts at 10:45 a.m. at the WWI cenotaph. Following the service, attendees are invited to the Eagles Club (3459 Pembina Hwy.) for a light lunch.

Remembrance Day Ceremony - Bruce Park Cenotaph
Time: around 10:45
Details: A bus will leave St James Legion # 4 around 10 a.m. to go to to Bruce Park. If you want a ride, you're asked to go to the branch come down to the branch. A parade will start after a ceremony at 10:45 a.m. heading to the Legion at 1755 Portage Avenue from the park. After the ceremony, there will be entertainment and a hot bowl of Chili at the Legion.
