2 police cruisers damaged after officers stop stolen truck in downtown Winnipeg
A 28-year-old man is facing numerous charges after ramming two police crusiers, while trying to escape from police. The Winnipeg Police Service said in a release that shortly after 1 a.m. on Saturday officers noticed a stolen 2019 Dodge Ram 1500 with Alberta plates travelling northbound on Sherbrook Street at Ellice Avenue. Officers followed the stolen vehicle from a distance while several other units were also called to the area. When it was safe to do so, officers boxed in the vehicle in at the intersection of Ellice Avenue and Smith Street. The 28-year-old drive rammed the police cruisers, causing minor damage to two police vehicles. However, the containment was successful and the driver was arrested without further incident. Once identified, police learned the driver is bound by two lifetime driving prohibitions. The 28-year-old man is facing several charges and remains in custody.
